Introduction to My Story

A new life.
A new home.
A new family.

A new blog.

After I finished school and waited for an answer from the universities I applied to I decided that I wanted to try something different first. Something other than school. I needed a break.
There were different options. I could travel around on my own and live from what I earned on my way. I could do something official and 'save' my university place. In the end, I went for the least likely option: I became an au pair.

The reason I call it 'least likely' is that I was never a big fan of children. To be honest, I don't want children myself. So of course it was a bit of a shock for everyone when I announced "I want to take care of kids for a year!".
But I still wanted to do it, or at least try it. Being an au pair is way different from being a parent. I don't have to worry about financials, about their education and their future. I'm not the one in charge of their upbringing, I'm the one in charge of them doing their homework.

On the same day I made an account on a site for au pairs. As it was a rather spontaneous decision I didn't have time to go to an agency which could take months and would cost a lot of money. After a few failed attempts due to miscommunication I finally found the perfect family here, in London.

And I'm happy with my decision. I'm happy that I wasn't too afraid to take this step.
It may not always be easy, but at least I won't look back and think "what if...".
